IN UTERO

WORK IN PROGRESS

Joséphine Auffray was working on her new solo research entitled IN UTERO thanks to the DIS-TANZ-SOLO Funds. She has long been fascinated by the transgenerational transmission of heritage in the body, in particular trauma, and is currently focusing on the complexity of foetal life. In her performance she attempts to overlay the perception of the foetus with that of the mother, blurring the identity of the protagonist and thus underlining the ambiguity of the bond between mother and child. Inspired by the Greek mythology of chimeras and the scientific phenomenon of microchimerism, she attempts to represent an alienated female figure, half-foetus, half-pregnant, who is mystically orchestrated by internal and external forces, both macro and micro, transforming into a creature.
